The growth in technology has led to the advancement of several modes of communication. Audio and video conferencing is one of the communication methods that has seen a tremendous change, with high-tech equipment been used. Audio and video conferencing communication method has to have two or multiple participants. Audio and video conferencing is often used in a meeting, but with people sited in different locations. The differences between audio and video conferencing is discussed below.
Audio conferencing requires a quality telephone handset for it to be successful and clear. Audio conferencing does not require network connection. Every participant in the video conference will be required to have internet connection as well as have compatible devices with the rest.
Each person in the video call will be required to have a microphone, a personal computer or desktop with web camera and any other device as may be required. You only need a telephone handset for audio conference.
Every person will be able to see the rest since all have web cameras in a video conference, and can share graphics and presentations with each other. In audio conferencing, participants only communicate verbally without seeing each other, and any presentation to be discussed must have been couriered before the audio conference.
The environment for the two conferencing methods is very different. Audio conference call can take place in any set up or surrounding, therefore the participants do not have to worry of where they are located. Video conference will require the participants to be in a well-lighted environment where all participants are able to see each other well.
There are advantages and disadvantages to this mode of communication. One advantage is that there are free easy to use software where one can download and use over the internet to communicate easily. One can be able to join in the conference from any part of the world, therefore allowing them to participate in classes, church, board meetings etc. even when they are far away.
Audio and video conferencing saves time and costs as participants can participate from their current location without having to travel to meet the rest.
One of the cons of this mode of communication is that the connection can be lost during the conference call especially in video calls where the users need to have internet connection. Audio conferencing also requires clear network for users to be able to use the telephone effectively. It also relies on good quality devises and tools, therefore someone with a sub-standard devise such as microphone in video call might not be able to participate.
Sometimes, it becomes a challenge to participate in a conferencing especially when there are users with no know how on how to use some gadgets such as microphone, or have others sharing a computer in a video conferencing.
